Economy
One of the reasons for our nation’s great economic prosperity is the free market system. It has allowed individuals to make choices for themselves in order to use their talents and resources to the fullest extent possible. Excessive taxes and regulations limit an individual’s ability to make these choices and they hamper economic growth. I believe that creating certainty in our tax code, our state budget, our regulatory system and protecting private property rights will encourage economic growth and business investment in Michigan.
Education
I am thankful for the education I received and the opportunities it has provided for me. This has created a passion for education. I believe that our State’s education policy should focus on career specific training to match students skills with those required for available jobs. Our current policies are creating a surplus of students for jobs that do not exist, meanwhile, many employers in skilled trade professions struggle to find workers.
Agriculture
The agriculture and food production industries account for over $100 Billion in annual economic activity in Michigan. It is estimated that 22% of our workforce is either directly or indirectly tied to agriculture. A healthy agricultural industry is vital to our economy. I pledge to protect farmers and producers from burdensome regulation and work for reforms to provide growers with the workers that are desperately needed.
Environment
As an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, I have a great respect for nature. I believe that we can have economic growth while protecting our natural resources. The 100th district which includes Newaygo, Lake, and Oceana Counties, contains beautiful forest and farmland as well as some of the best trout streams in the country. These resources provide significant tourism revenue for the district and I will fight to protect them.
2nd Amendment
I am a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment. I support right to carry legislation. I am an NRA life member and have a CPL permit. As a gun collector and recreational shooter, I will strongly protect and promote the 2nd amendment.
State's Rights
While I will support and protect all of the constitution, the 10th amendment is particularly important. The amendment states that all powers not specifically given to the Federal government belong to the States. I will work to return power to the State of Michigan that has been slowly transferring to the Federal government.
Life
I believe that life begins at conception and that abortion should only occur in the rare circumstance of saving a mother’s life.
Labor
I am a strong supporter of Michigan’s Right to Work Law and will fight any efforts to repeal it. I believe workers have the right to choose whether or not they will belong to a union.
American Laws
I support using only American laws in American courts. I am against using foreign laws as legal precedents. While I believe this is common sense, foreign laws and legal doctrines, including Sharia principles, have been creeping into our courts. I support legislation to ensure that only American laws which are based on personal and religious liberty, private property rights, due process, etc. are used in American courts.
Religious Liberty
Religious liberty is such an important issue it was included in the very first amendment to the constitution. Our government is becoming increasingly hostile towards people of faith and has at times insisted that when government and faith disagree, people of faith must change. I support legislation to ensure that people of faith are free to practice their beliefs and are not threatened with economic sanctions for doing so.
Rule of Law
Respect for the rule of law is one of the principles that have allowed our country to prosper. Many countries have market economies and constitutions similar to ours; however, they have failed to prosper as the application of law is inconsistent and often does not apply to the rich and powerful. Our country has been trending in this direction and I vow to fight this.
